Bob Seeley
The "Elder Statesman" of the US Boogie Woogie Pianists is Bob Seeley. Most of his life he spent in Detroit, but has moved to Florida some years ago. Meanwhile he is 89 years old and still active at the piano keys! Since his early youth he plays piano: Boogie Woogie, Stride and Ragtime, that rhythm is in his blood. His repertoire is enormous, and he plays with great power and virtuosity. For over 20 years, he held his engagement at Detroit’s "Charley’s Crab", where he mostly presented Boogie Woogie. But he also was able to oblige to almost every musical request which was asked from him by his audience. Only at an age at which most people retire he started his international carreer, traveling and performing all over Europe and even Russia. Bob enjoyed a friendship with his idol Meade "Lux" Lewis and personally met Art Tatum and Eubie Blake. By these encounters, his musical expression matured, but he also was inspired by his collaborations with young pianists, particularly in Europe.
